tooth injury
Introduction:
Many children and adults may lose some of their teeth due to injuries or accidents. This does not mean that the patient has lost his/her tooth permanently, as chances are good that the tooth can be saved and re-implanted if the proper steps are taken immediately. Hence, it is important to start the first aid steps, and proceed immediately to the dentist within thirty minutes.
Causes of Dental Injuries:
Car accidents.
Quarrelling.
Falls, collisions.
During practicing some kinds of sports.
First Aid Steps:
Find the avulsed tooth and carefully handle it from the chewing side (crown), and never touch its roots.
If the tooth is dirty, gently rinse it off with clean water, not with soap or any chemicals. Do not rub, dry, or wrap the tooth with a tissue or cloth.
Try to immediately restore the tooth to its position in the gums, by applying it gently, while maintaining not to touch its root. Then, close the mouth slowly, and bite it gently until it snaps into place.
If you cannot restore the tooth to its place, it should be kept wet until you reach the dentist, by means of placing it in a cup of milk, or by placing it in the mouth next to the cheek, but the tooth should not be kept in water.
Visit the dentist within thirty minutes for quick intervention. However, the tooth can be re-implanted, if it is saved within an hour.
